STS-65 Mission Specialist Leroy Chiao, outfitted in a launch and entry suit (LES), and Payload Specialist Chiaki Mukai, in LES, sit on chairs along the poolside prior to a launch emergency egress training (bailout) exercise in the Johnson Space Center's (JSC's) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WETF) Bldg 29. The two crewmembers await a simulated parachute drop into the pool. A portion of the STS-65 crew was in the WETF for bailout training. Mukai, representing Japan's National Space Development Agency (NASDA), will join Chiao and five other NASA astronauts for the International Microgravity Laboratory 2 (IML-2) mission aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 102, later this year. |
