| Description |
STS-26 Discovery, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 103, crewmembers and members of orbiter close-out crews participate in a simulated emergency egress exercise on the launch pad 195 ft level at Kennedy Space Center's (KSC's) launch complex (LC) 39B. Teams are seated in launch pad emergency escape system slidewire baskets (astronaut G. David Low in basket in foreground). Reasons for conducting the emergency exercises include the need to validate recent upgrades to the launch pad's emergency escape system and new procedures developed in preparation for STS-26.
