Description STS-45 Pilot Brian Duffy, wearing headset assembly, talks to amateur radio operators on Earth from the forward flight deck of Atlantis, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 104. The space to Earth radio communications was part of the Shuttle Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX) which has been part of a number of Space Shuttle missions. Duffy, a licensed amateur radio operator using call letters N5WQW, at one point talked to his children, also licensed "hams," during a call to a Texas elementary school. Other equipment surrounding Duffy includes an empty food container, a crew cabin light fixture, the LINHOF camera, and a camera mounted on a bracket. A penlight flashlight rests on Duffy's shoulder.
