Dust Plume over the Persian …
Title Dust Plume over the Persian Gulf
Description A plume of dust blew out of Syria over Iraq, the northern tip of the Persian Gulf, and Saudi Arabia on June 26, 2007. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) [ http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov/ ] flying on NASA's Aqua [ http://aqua.nasa.gov/ ] satellite captured this image of the dust storm. In this image, the dust appears in a slightly paler shade of beige than the desert itself, blurring the landscape below. After stretching out over the Persian Gulf toward Bahrain and Qatar, the dust swirls back to the west, into Saudi Arabia. Although some extra dust may have been kicked up along the way, the dust in the southwest part of this image probably did not arise from that rugged, hilly region. Title Dust Storm over Bahrain and Qatar
Description Saudi Arabian dust blew over Bahrain, Qatar, and the Persian Gulf on September 12, 2007. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) [ http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov ] on NASA's Terra [ http://terra.nasa.gov ] satellite took this picture the same day. In this image, the dust appears as a pale beige arc moving in a clockwise direction. Although the dust is thin along the margins of the plume, near the center of the arc, it is thick enough to almost completely hide the island nation of Bahrain. Dust Storm over Persian Gulf
Title Dust Storm over Persian Gulf
Description On June 14, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite captured an image of a dust storm veiling the northern part of the Persian Gulf and surrounding countries: (clockwise from bottom left) Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Iran. The front of the dust cloud stops just short of the peninsular country of Qatar, at bottom center. The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS' maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters. Image courtesy Jeff Schmaltz, MODIS Rapid Response Team, NASA GSFC
Dust Storm Over Persian Gulf
Title Dust Storm Over Persian Gulf
Description On May 14, 2004, the morning overpass of the Terra satellite over the Persian Gulf captured this image of a large dust storm spreading a veil of dust over the water and the countries surrounding the shores: (clockwise from top left corner) Iraq, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Saudia Arabia, and Kuwait. The peninsular country on the western shore of the Gulf is Qatar. The dust swirls in streamers, arcs, and parallel lines over more than half the Gulf. The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at additional resolutions. Title Dust Storm over the Persian Gulf
Description On March 2, 2007, a dust storm blew out of Saudi Arabia, northward over the Persian Gulf, and into Iran. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) [ http://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov ] on NASA's Terra [ http://terra.nasa.gov ] satellite took this picture the same day. This image shows the dust plume originating in Saudi Arabia and heading northward, directly over the small nation of Qatar. Over the Persian Gulf, the plume takes on an unusual appearance, with thin tendrils of dust alternating with clear sky. This might result from air currents over the water carving into the dust plume. North of the gulf, the plume mingles with clouds, giving some of them a dingy appearance.
