Description STS-39's Air Force Program 675 (AFP-675) Uniformly Redundant Array (URA) and Cryogenic Infrared Radiance Instrumentation for Shuttle 1A (CIRRIS-1A) mounted on the experiment support system (ESS) pallet are documented in Discovery's, Orbiter Vehicle (OV) 103's, payload bay (PLB). Part of the ESS pallet power distribution system thermal covering is visible at the bottom of the frame. AFP-675 is a Department of Defense (DOD)-sponsored collection of experiments whose objective is to gather data on the Earth's atmosphere (aurora, Earth limb, and airglow), celestial objects, and the environment in and around the PLB.
