Title:
Open Ocean Internal Waves near Borneo
Description:
This unusual packet of internal waves was observed in Indonesia off the coast of Borneo (8.0N, 119.0E) early in the mission. These internal waves are thought to form at the boundries between water layers of different salinity or tempeature. The surface expression of these waves is very subtle but it can be seen quite readily from space in sunglint conditions. Several small eddies can also be seen in the sunglint pattern.
