title:
Asteroids Mathilde, Gaspra and Ida
description:
Mathilde, Gaspra, and Ida (left to right, all at the same scale). The image of Mathilde was taken by the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous spacecraft on June 27, 1997. Images of Gaspra and Ida were taken in 1991 and 1993, respectively, by the Galileo spacecraft.

The visible part of Mathilde measures 37 miles (59 kilometers) wide and 29 miles (47 kilometers) high. Mathilde has more large craters than the other two asteroids. Mathilde is shown at about the same brightness as the other two asteroids, but is actually much darker.
