JSC2003-E-59051 (13 October 2003) --- The Expedition 8 prime and backup crews receive a briefing from a Cosmodrome official prior to a final inspection of the Soyuz TMA-3 spacecraft capsule in the complex integration facility. From the left, the prime crew consists of astronaut C. Michael Foale, Expedition 8 mission commander and NASA ISS science officer; cosmonaut Alexander Y. Kaleri, Soyuz commander and flight engineer; and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Pedro Duque of Spain. Duque is flying to the International Space Station (ISS) for just over a week under a commercial contract between ESA and the Rosaviakosmos. Foale and Kaleri will spend almost 200 days on the ISS. The backup crew consists of astronaut William S. (Bill) McArthur, Jr., cosmonaut Valery I. Tokarev, and ESA's Andre Kuipers of the Netherlands. Expedition 8 is scheduled to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on October 18 onboard a Soyuz rocket to the International Space Station. Kaleri and Tokarev represent Rosaviakosmos.
