This image from the Mod erate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on March 20, 2003, shows fires concentrated heavily east of keyhole-shaped Lake Maracaibo. A thick cloud of smoke hangs over the country. The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel.
