Fires in West Africa
Description:
A high concentration of fires (red dots) was detected in southern Guinea (center) in West Africa on March 10, 2003, by the Mod erate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqu a satellite. Other countries shown are (clockwise from top left) Senegal (surrounding Gambia), Mali, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea-Bissau. Over the Atlantic Ocean (left), dust from the Sahara Desert creates a tan haze.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
