A thick band of haze crossed the Yellow Sea, Korean Peninsula, and Sea of Japan on October 9, 2006. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite took this picture the same day. In this image, the pollution appears as a dingy plume of grey-beige, so thick in places that it completely obscures the view of the underlying land or water.
