In northern Washington, several large fires were burning when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer
(MODIS) on NASA’s
Terra passed overhead on September 7, 2006. This photo-like image of the region shows the Tatoosh and Tripod Complexes, as well as the Cedar Creek, Flick Creek, and Tinpan Fires. Smoke had settled into the valleys of rivers and creeks that wind through the rugged mountains. Places where MODIS detected actively burning fire are outlined in red. Information on the status of the fires in this image is available in the daily report on the Website of the
National Interagency Fire Center. The high-resolution image provided above has a spatial resolution of 250 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response Team provides
