Title:
Spring Fires in Western Russia
Description:
Hundreds of fires, most of them probably related to agriculture, were burning in western Russia on May 1, 2006. This image of the area was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite, and places where the sensor detected actively burning fires are marked in red. A swath of smoke makes a clockwise arc around the western (left) side of the scene, passing over several countries in Eastern Europe and shrouding the Gulf of Finland. The smoke plume travels far to the north and spreads out over" title="http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/NaturalHazards/natural_hazards_v2.php3?img_id=13540">over">http://earthobserva…the Barents Sea.
