Title:
Fires in Southeastern Australia
Description:
Dozens of fires were actively burning in central New South Wales, Australia, on April 19, 2006, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed over. Fires are marked in red. This part of New South Wales has some natural grassland, but is dominated by pastures and croplands. These fires may be intentional land management fires set by the area’s farmers and ranchers.

The high-resolution image provided above has a spatial resolution of 250 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response Team provides daily images of the area in a variety of resolutions and formats.
