Title:
Fires in Southeast Australia
Description:
Although the official New South Wales fire danger season is over, the threat of bushfires still remains. This image of southeast New South Wales shows several scattered fires (yellow with red outlines) burning southeast of Canberra, including a fairly large and smoky one near the coast. Many localities have decided to extend the season through the end of April because of the persisting drought conditions. This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MO DIS) on the Ter ra satellite.

Image by Jesse Allen, based on data from the MOD IS Rapid Response Team at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
