Title:
A Winter Solstice
Explanation:
Today is the Winter Solstice [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…], the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…]. The yearly cycle of Seasons [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] on planet Earth once again finds the Sun [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] at its lowest point in the Northern Sky. The Sun's own 11 year cycle of activity [ http://www.adler.uc…] is progressing toward a maximum which will occur in 2000-2001. This image of the Sun [ http://sohowww.nasc…] in the light [ http://seal.nascom.…] of ionized Helium [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] was recorded by the space-based SOHO observatory only three days ago and shows many prominences [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] and active regions.
