Title:
The Eskimo Nebula from Hubble
Title
The Eskimo Nebula from Hubble
Title
Explanation:
In 1787, astronomer William Herschel [
http://www.windows.
] discovered the Eskimo Nebula [
http://www.seds.org
]. From the ground, NGC 2392 resembles a person's head surrounded by a parka [
http://www.oregonli
] hood. In 2000, the Hubble Space Telescope [
http://antwrp.gsfc.
] imaged the Eskimo Nebula [
http://www.noao.edu
]. From space, the nebula displays gas clouds so complex they are not fully understood. The Eskimo Nebula [
http://adsabs.harva
] is clearly a planetary nebula [
http://antwrp.gsfc.
], and the gas seen above composed the outer layers of a Sun [
http://antwrp.gsfc.
]-like star only 10,000 years ago. The inner filaments visible above [
http://hubblesite.o
] are being ejected by strong wind [
http://www-istp.gsf
] of particles from the central star. The outer disk contains unusual light-year [
http://en.wikipedia
] long orange filaments.
