Title:
The Aquarius Dwarf
Explanation:
Our Milky Way Galaxy [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] is not alone. It is part of a gathering of about 50 galaxies known as the Local Group [ http://www.seds.org…]. Members include the Great Andromeda Galaxy [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] (M31), M32 [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…], M33 [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…], the Large Magellanic Cloud [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…], the Small Magellanic Cloud [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…], Dwingeloo 1 [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…], several small irregular galaxies [ http://www.seds.org…], and many dwarf elliptical [ http://nedwww.ipac.…] and dwarf spheroidal galaxies [ http://www.astro.uu…]. Pictured above is the Aquarius Dwarf [ http://www.seds.org…], a faint dwarf irregular galaxy over 3 million light years [ http://chandra.harv…] away. An earlier [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] APOD [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] erroneously identified [ http://www.solstati…] the above image as the Sagittarius Dwarf [ http://www.seds.org…].
