Title:
Dueling Auroras
Explanation:
Will it be curtains for one of these auroras? A quick inspection indicates that it is curtains for both, as the designation "curtains [ http://www.explorat…]" well categorizes the type of aurora pattern pictured. Another (informal) type is the corona [ http://explorezone.…]. The above auroras [ http://www.spacewea…] resulted from outbursts of ionic particles [ http://www-istp.gsf…] from the Sun [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] during the last week of September. A polarity change [ http://www.sciam.co…] in the solar magnetic field [ http://solar.physic…] at the Earth [ http://antwrp.gsfc.…] then triggered auroras [ http://pluto.space.…] over the next few days. The above picture [ http://www.spacewea…] was taken on October 3 as fleeting space radiation [ http://www.oulu.fi/…] pelted the Earth's atmosphere [ http://csep10.phys.…] high above the Yukon [ http://www.gov.yk.c…] in Canada [ http://www.cia.gov/…].
