ED09-0295-13 Shovels in the Sand - Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Oct. 14 for the new Consolidated Information Technology Center at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center. The 22,000-square-foot, two-story facility will be built by Southwestern Dakotah Inc., of Tucson, Ariz., under a .8 million contract. The new building will be a state-of-the-art facility to meet both current and anticipated future information technology requirements. The first ''green'' building to be constructed at Dryden, the facility will incorporate water and energy conservation features and will use durable materials that do not degrade indoor environmental quality. Participating in turning over the ceremonial first shovelful of dirt were, from left, Allen Olsen, Southwestern Dakotah Inc.; David McBride, Acting Director, NASA Dryden; Jerry Davis, Deputy Chief Information Officer, IT Security, NASA Headquarters; Frank Bellinger, Director, Facilities Engineering and Real Property, NASA Headquarters; and Col. Jerry L. Gandy, Installation Commander of Edwards AFB. October 14, 2009 NASA Photo / Tom Tschida
